Borehole

Borehole by Callum Hanlon, tells the story of Tristan, the sole survivor of a mining disaster. By intimately engaging with the protagonist, the film addresses the lasting effects that a traumatic experience can have upon an individual. Through the study of psychological disorders and psychosocial dysfunctions, the film seeks to understand the consequences of such an event and its impact upon the human mind.

A scream, a trigger; this is all it takes to evoke the memory of the experience. Tristan needs to get away from people, somewhere to hide. A cafe? No. A restaurant? No. A toilet?…

The film attempts to confront Tristan’s fears, challenge his social anxieties, and wrestle with his past. From the deepest mine in Wales, to the darkest depths of an underground toilet in Brighton, Tristan is now faced with another situation on his hands…
